WHAT UGANDA EXPECTS FROM US TECHNICIANS

The diverse engineering field can be divided in a variety of ways in terms of job functions. Some of the most common functions relate to these areas of technology, but not all do. Among these fields are:
  • Product Design -- developing products ranging from biomedical devices to gasoline-powered engines. A mechanical engineer designs anything that uses mechanical motion.
  • Research and Development -- discovering new solutions to human needs or improving older methods.
  • Manufacturing -- developing the machines that process materials into products. Designing and building machines and systems of machines that improve operating efficiency is of prime importance.
  • Systems management -- overseeing operations of a large system, such as a power plant, as well as supervising the people who work there.
  • Energy -- planning how energy is generated, stored, and moved. Industries that produce and deliver electrical power, such as natural gas, oil and alternative energy, employ engineers to develop more fuel-efficient cars, motors, and appliances.
  • Marketing -- determining the need for a new or modified product, and calculating product availability, market size, cost structure, profitability, specifications, and distribution channels.
In most of these fields, the engineer is concerned with heat utilization or machine design--in other words, harnessing or creating energy. Heat utilization techniques are applied in boilers, air conditioners, and refrigeration units. Machine design is more focused on hardware, including automobile engines, computers, and washing machines.

Engineers are constantly being asked to make decisions. The size, shape, and material of every part of every mechanical product created must be decided by a engineer. They also have to determine the best and most efficient ways to manufacture the products. Often those decisions are made in conjunction with other types of engineers. Some of the decisions they make can mean the difference between life and death: the safety features of automobiles, for example, are the responsibility of engineers.

thank you so much for visiting this blog.

THE NEED TO CHANGE THE METHOD OF INSTRUCTION.

In most cases, we try to prepare test items wrongly. In some cases, the method of training does not go ahead to stimulate the learner to think harder, the above chart illustrates the old version where only questions that need one answer is asked at knowledge level. for example In which year did Uganda get Independence? the answer is only 1962. we need to prepare test items that will force the learner to solve, explain, compare among others to be able to make an analysis of the results. This will improve the remembrance level and boost the understanding.
by the end of the training, the learner will be able to generate a problem statement and create or less manipulate ideas to provide a solution in community. normally, knowledge, skills and attitude are ably combined  to produce a product to proficiency.

MACHINE DESIGN PROCEDURE.

In designing a machine component, the problem may be attempted in many ways.  More so some procedure can be followed to solve a design problem.
1. Recognition of need.

we need to make the statement of the problem, showing the need, the main purpose for which the machine is to be designed.

2. Material selection.
The material selected should be the best for each part of the machine for example a material making a gripper can be harder than the body.

3. Analysis of forces.
we need to find the forces acting on each of the members of the machine and the energy transmitted by each part.

4. motion/ mechanisms.
select the most possible mechanism which will give the desired motion.

5. Modification.
consider room for modification, this modification may also be necessary by consideration of manufacturing to reduce overall cost.

6. Consider detailed drawing. draw the detailed drawing of each component and the assembly of the machine with complete specification for the manufacturing processes suggested.

7. Production.
The component as per the drawing is manufactured in the workshop.

INSTRUCTORS

My fellows instructors, technical staff that is directly in vocational training instruction, thorough preparations need to be done before one enters a training session, among others lesson/ session plans, information sheet and assignment sheet plus an attendance sheet will make an instructor an experienced skills person because the training preparations boost confidence in  the trainer.

As far as competence based education and training is concerned, demonstration method of delivery is very paramount. Remember it is upon us the trainers to exhibit masterly of the tasks to be able to capture audience from the learners.

We are responsible for the out come that we send to work in the industry.

OUR LINKAGE TO AN INDUSTRIALIZED UGANDA.

We are proud to be part of the technicians, technologists, engineers and all the craft persons in Uganda and the world at large. We greatly recognize your tangible efforts towards industrializing the economy. We are therefore very much privileged to share, learn and educate each other by way of information sharing, promote consultancy, industrial innovations and leadership in Vocational Training Instruction.

our core areas of coverage hereby include education resources, sharing knowledge in Engineering trades including Plumbing and Sheet metal, Mechanical and Electronics.

We extend our sincere gratitude to  the entire public and we will always welcome your comments, contributions, ideas, summary and feedback.  As we embrace the Uganda "Vision 2040" , which among others is strengthening application of software i.e. Computer Aided Engineering, Computer Aided Manufacturing, in production processes and automation.

we wish to contribute towards increasing and strengthening learner- research mechanisms, Instructor-research mechanisms and among others gaining experience as technicians.

we are looking forward to sharing true information and source based ideas to the Ugandans and beyond.
we thank you for endeavoring to visit our site.

Thank you.
